Washington, D.C.—The National Center for Transgender Equality Action Fund is proud to announce the launch of TRANSForm The Vote, a nationwide campaign to mobilize transgender people, their families, and allies in the 2018 midterm elections.
The campaign will include registration drives, phone banking, and a national awareness campaign to highlight the issues that matter to transgender people and everyone who stands for equality. TRANSForm The Vote will also work to educate transgender people about ID requirements in states with strict voter ID laws, and amplify the concerns transgender people have about health care, employment, and the future of our country’s leadership.
TRANSForm The Vote is proud to have the support of Nicole Maines of the CW’s Supergirl and Jazz Jennings of TLC’s I Am Jazz to give young transgender people the confidence that they can make an impact in this election and in their world. Both are featured in new videos talking about the importance of voting for transgender people and their families.
Mara Keisling, Executive Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, gave the following statement:
“If we want to reach the more equitable future we have always dreamed of, transgender people and our allies can and must make a difference in this and every election. In order to change the conditions faced by transgender people across the country, our voices and our votes must be at the heart of that change. We have to stand together and we have to fight together, but none of that matters this year unless we vote together.”
